PRS Santana III (2002)

When I began to specify my Huber Dolphin I had to analyze my preferences that seemed so clear in the beginning. I learned a lot about myself during the process and one of the main things that became clear was the need of the volume control getting out of the way. If you look at the guitars on the market today you will notice that this reduces the amount of possible acquisitions to a few percent only. Strat-style guitars won't do the trick (that's why I had custom pickguards with 2 controls installed all of my Strats). Paulas do it, SGs do it, but both have other parts that don't meet my needs, mainly the bridge that feels uncomfortable to me. A question of personal taste, style and technique, a lot of people obviously get along very well with it.

Anyway, I had already played PRS Customs for several years but never gave a thought on the Santana because they were just too expensive. I had totally missed on the release of the III which is basically a Santana II with "less ornate decoration". It was right before me but I didn't notice until a friend of mine pushed me towards this model.

And WOW! String action, sounds, controls, everything!  Aside from the Dolphin this has become my main player within a few months and I am thinking about getting another one of them.

The Santana III is out of production now and the color on this one (turquoise) was only available in the beginning. One of my favorites in the color chart!
