Nik Huber Dolphin Rosewood (1997)
Another Dolphin model that came my way in 2001. And definitely another proof for Nik Huber's exceptional skills ! It was made in 1997 but was kept clean and so it was in mint condition when I received it in 2001.
Since that there was a change done to it: It had this typical carving along the body edge but I think that this is not too comfortable to play on so I had Nik remove it. At this stage, the whole guitar was re-finished in its original green color again, too.
Specs:
- One-piece maple body with exceptional quilt
- Rosewood neck with rosewood fretboard, wide-fat profile
- 22 frets, dot inlays
- fixed bridge, strings-through-body
- chrome hardware
- Sperzel locking tuners
- bridge: Gibson '57 Classic Zebra humbucker
- neck: Gibson P-90 soapbar
- volume, tone, 3-way switch
The neck material is a custom option. I never
really paid attention to that but since I have that one I have to say that it
affects the tone dramatically ! I definitely like it better than maple
necks. The pickup combination is just perfect for me and I wonder why there
are no serial guitars out that feature a humbucker at the bridge while the neck
pickup is a P-90. The best of both worlds ! Great hum-free riffing and
singing, warm leads, especially on a 22-fret guitar...
