Eyb Custom Guitar (1985)
One of the first guitars made by German luthier Günter Eyb back in 1985. Everything I know about this guitar is what the previous owner told me...
The body was taken from a genuine USA Fender
Stratocaster, made around 1982. The maple neck, built by Eyb, has 21 frets and is not finished. It just
plays excellent !
It has several typical features for the "Super Strats" that were
available from ESP, Kramer and many other companies at that time, such as a
Floyd Rose locking tremolo and a humbucker in the bridge position. It has been
played a lot and got refretted two times. The body shows a lot of wear but
that's fine with me :-) When I received the guitar it was taken apart so I
took the chance and had the wiring done completely new. Now it only has 2
controls for volume and tone, not 3 like it used to be in the past. The upper
one just gets in my way all the time. Plus, a lot of screws and other small
parts were replaced (strap pins from Kluson etc).
The guitar once belonged to Armin Sabol and I was told that he used this instrument for a lot of live gigs as well as recordings for various artists. Eventually this guitar was also used to record Peter Schilling's #1 hit "Major Tom" !
