ESP Climax

ESP Climax Electro Acoustic (1993)

A guitar that virtually nobody knows about. And you won't find many infos on these on the net... Which is a shame because these rare guitars are excellent !  I knew them since they came out in 1993 but I had no use for an electro acoustic guitar at that time. Plus, the retail price of about 1500 Eur was pretty high...  When I revived my cover band a few years ago I needed a guitar to get a good acoustic sound on stage without spending much additional equipment such as special amplifiers and so on. So I bought a Godin LGX which has a L.R.Baggs system that sounded very good over the PA system but I didn't really like the electric sound with the Tetrad pickups. Meanwhile I had the chance to play my cousin's LGX with Duncans and like it much better but that's a different story. I also had the Catalyst back then but the Fishman system on that one is tricky to handle. It can sound great but needs much more efforts than the Baggs system. Finally I sold both and checked the market for "pure" electro-acoustic guitars. My first choice would have been a Godin Multiac but just when I went for one this nearly forgotten beauty appeared on the market in excellent condition and I grabbed it immediately :-)

The playability is just amazing for an electric guitarist. The neck dimensions and string action are very close to an electric. And it's very easy to get a beautiful tone out of it. Just plug it in, tweak the EQ a bit and you're there. Even over a regular combo with 12" speakers that thing sounds really good !

The quality of this Japanese-made guitar is high-end class and the appearance with its flame maple top and binding is a pleasure to the eye. Take a closer look at the body !
